Central Oregon Coast Seafood Wine Fest Offers Advance E Tix

(Newport, Oregon) – It’s the biggie on the Oregon coast, and you may get a chance at avoiding the big lines. Advanced online tickets are now available for the 34th Annual Newport Seafood & Wine Festival, happening February 25, 26, and 27, 2011 – adjacent to the Rogue Ales Warehouse, 2320 OSU Drive, just south of downtown Newport.

This enables visitors to use the special “e-ticket” line at the entrance of the festival: http://www.newportchamber.org. Prices for e-tickets are the same as gate entry, but with a handling fee.

Advance group tickets are also on sale, allowing larger groups a special entrance. Groups of 15 or more can call the Chamber office (800-262-7844).

Festival Hours and Gate Prices are:

Friday, February 25, 2 pm to 9 pm – $10 ticket prices

Saturday, February 26; 10 am to 6 pm, $15 ticket price;

Sunday, February 27, 10 am to 4 pm, $5 ticket price. (Please note that ticket prices do not reflect a handling fee.)

The last weekend of every February, the central Oregon coast resort town of Newport swells with well over 17,000 visitors coming to the festival for a weekend of wine, wonders in the culinary world, seafood and arts & crafts. 35 food vendors, 24 crafters and 85 wineries will be found at this enormous festival. A large variety of craft items will be sold, from articles of clothing, jewelry, art glass, metal sculptures, works of art and hand-painted ceramics to handcrafted wine accessories.

This year’s event, presented by Spirit Mountain Casino, is celebrating its 34th year.

Be sure to book lodging early, there is still some availability at this time, but lodging will fill as the event draws closer. Airline tickets from Portland to Newport can be booked on SeaPort Airlines by visiting their website at www.SeaPortAir.com.

You must be 21 years or older to attend this event. You must also show valid picture ID or you will not be able to enter the event. The site is handicapped accessible and smoke free, with a special outdoor smoking area. Parking at the facility is $5. Shuttle buses will run for free from Newport, and a shuttle schedule and map will be available on the chamber’s website as well as the chamber center: 800-262-7844 or visit www.newportchamber.org

The Portland Seafood and Wine Festival

From the Seafood & Wine Festival Website:

This winter event held February the 4th and 5th, 2011 is a celebration of all things Oregon, but most specifically our wonderful Oregon seafood and wines.

Join us at the Oregon Convention Center for nearly 100,000 square feet of exhibit space dedicated to Oregon Seafood and Wine! This event, smack dab in the middle of Dungeness Crab season promises to be an event you will love and look forward to each and every year! Bring the kids to check out our sand castle building, puppet shows and sand play area.

Discounts:

  • The first 300 people each day through the gates receive a keepsake commemorative wine glass.
  • $2 discount price on tickets purchased within the first 2 hours of the festival each day.
  • Bring your Fred Meyer Rewards Card to the festival at any time and receive $3 off admission (offer cannot be combined with first two-hour discount).

Food item prices range from $1 and up. Wine sampling starts at $.50 and prices for menu items varies from $2 to $15.

Polar Plunge to Benefit the Special Olympics in Salina

February 19th, 2011: Extreme cold. Extreme people. Extremely good cause. Each winter across our state hundreds of Special Olympics Kansas fans and athletes face freezing waters and take the plunge. The Polar Plunge has become the largest and most popular fundraising event for Special Olympics Kansas. Taking the Polar Plunge is a great way to show you’re a fan of Special Olympics Kansas!

The 2011 Polar Plunge begins at 9:30am with a Cross Country Run; 5K Strut & 1 mile Fun Run; then at 11 am is the PLUNGE! All to benefit Special Olympics Kansas.

There is an Early Bear Party at 8am, registration begins at 8:30am, and there’s an After Party at Long MacArthur Ford. Be sure to join the After Party hosted by the Saline County Blue Thunder! $5 donation will buy your meal. All proceeds from the After Party go to the local program. Prizes will be awarded at the After Party. Must be present to win.
